Theme: Collaborative and Interdisciplinary Climate Change Science
Primary Goals of the Meeting
- Advance understanding of climate change and its impact on the western U.S. by leveraging resources, data sharing, and data management in ID, NV, and NM.
- Develop joint research, education, and outreach capacity in the broader region that will lead to development of a virtual center for regional climate change research, education, and outreach.
The 2nd Annual Western Tri-State Consortium meeting was held April 6-8, 2010 in Incline Village, Nevada. This year's conference "Collaborative and Interdisciplinary Science" drew 150 attendees from Nevada, Idaho and New Mexico. The nearly 40 participants from New Mexico included faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral scholars from the University of New Mexico, NM Highlands University, NM Tech, and NM State University. The first day of the conference focused on Cyberinfrastructure activities across the the three states. On the second day, researchers from all three states discussed their work in climate change science, policy and diversity efforts. The day concluded with a student poster session in which over 30 student posters were judged by representatives from all 3 states. The concluding day provided an opportunity for conference attendees to consider ways to further collaborative efforts and foster project synergies. Initial feedback from the conference has been very positive and all participants have been asked to provide input that will inform next year's conference which will be hosted by New Mexico.
